To take advantage of the benefits of the NAFTA Agreement, every effort should be made to obtain a properly completed NAFTA certificate which will enable the goods to be rated at the lowest possible rate of duty. Goods, as an example, imported into Canada or The United States from the United States or Canada, with a properly completed NAFTA certificate are duty free.

Under the agreement, the exporter of the goods is not bound or required to provide you with this Certificate of Origin. We do suggest however, that you make this part of your purchase order agreement, making it a requirement of the sale, if the goods do qualify. Although this certificate does not have to be presented to Customs at time of accounting, you may be required to produce them at a later date.
