As per the following notice effect today
November 9, 2010 the Government Fee for certain Steel
Permits (see link to PDF with effected Classifications) will no
longer be collected. The Dell Will service fee for
preparation of the steel permit still applies.
Going forward at some point in the near future
EICS and CBSA are planning on phasing out the requirement for
certain Steel Permit preparation all together, a notice will be
posted to our website when this happens.

to inform you that effective

, further to the
Ministerial Order, amending the
Export and Import Permits and Certificates Fees Order, the Trade
Controls and Technical Barriers Bureau
will no longer collect fees on permits related to the
importation of Item 80 – Carbon Steel and Item 81 –
Specialty Steel of the Import Control List. The carbon steel and
specialty steel products subject to this measure can be

and the Canada Border Services Agency are working toward
reducing the regulatory burden at the border through the
implementation of a new Canada Border Services Agency
information sharing system, Pathfinder, to access import data
which is currently only available through the import permit
system under the Export
and Import Permits Act. As an interim measure, pending the
full implementation of Pathfinder, the Trade Controls and
Technical Barriers Bureau is eliminating the fees on steel
permits as a cost saving measure for the industry.
