It is the Importer's
responsibility to ensure the proper information has been
disclosed to Customs for clearance. The new AMPS system may create a lot
of penalty situations. Your shipment can be seized or
penalties can apply for the following reasons, just to name a few:
Incorrect Quantity
Incorrect Value
Incorrect Origin
Incorrect Discounts
You should advise your Customs Broker of all the
proper information before your shipment arrives for Customs clearance.
You need to develop a compliance plan. This plan should create a paper
flow from the time of order to the time of payment. For example the
following items should all be verified to ensure proper values,
quantities etc.
Purchase order
NAFTA Certificate
Imports Documents
Shipping Documents
Receiving Documents
Notification of shortages or overages
Payment, Discounts
Exportations
